What’s Behind the Data? Lessons for the Dot App Contraceptive Efficacy Study

Dynamic Optimal Timing (Dot), is an algorithm-based app, designed to help a woman know her pregnancy risks each day using just her period start dates, and provides information to help her plan or prevent pregnancy. An efficacy trial for preventing pregnancy is being conducted on Dot™ to assess perfect and typical use, describe interactions between user characteristics and Dot use, and provide precedent to guide mobile contraceptive research. Over 700 participants were recruited into the study and are being followed for 13-cycles of use. Discontinuation of the method, particularly due to pregnancy, is rigorously assessed based on the data enter into the app. This session will include an interactive activity that engages attendees in the process of classifying participants as they exit the study based on case profiles.
