What Happens After Funding Ends? Two Newborn Health Case Studies
*Recommended Audience: Young Professionals/Graduate Students, Mid-Level Professionals, and Experienced Professionals
Global health practitioners rarely have funding to return to a program after it has ended and evaluate what worked, what didn’t, and why. This evaluation of progress in newborn care implementation, 4 years after the Saving Newborn Lives program ended in Mali and Indonesia, did just that. The case studies used a conceptual model, the Pathway to High Effective Coverage at Scale, to assess critical elements of the health system and how they build on each other to reach high levels of effective coverage and impact on newborn health. This session will describe the Pathway, how the team worked with country stakeholders to use it to assess progress, and identify successes and challenges in mainstreaming newborn care into government health systems.
