Using an Innovative Tool to Address Anemia at The District Level

*Recommended Audience: Young Professionals/Graduate Students and Mid-Level Professionals

In this interactive session, presenters from the SPRING project will introduce the District Assessment Tool for Anemia (DATA), a user-friendly Excel-based tool designed for use during a two-day facilitated workshop. The tool enables district level actors to: (1) understand anemia’s multifactorial causes, which require interventions across programmatic areas (nutrition, Infectious Disease, water and sanitation, agriculture and education); (2) use district-level data to assess the local anemia situation; and (3) develop context-specific action plans that prioritize key activities for anemia reduction. Through a simulation exercise, attendees will have a chance to step into the shoes of district officials and explore DATA’s various features. Presenters will share experiences and lessons learned from the testing and roll-out of the tool in Ghana, Nepal and Uganda.
