USAID’s Role in The Changing World of Development Finance
*Recommended Audience: Introductory/Undergraduate Students, Young Professionals/Graduate Students, and Mid-Level Professionals
The development landscape is changing–traditional donor budgets are flat-lining or decreasing, countries are experiencing unprecedented economic growth, and foreign direct investment is rapidly outpacing official development assistance. Against this backdrop, donor agencies like USAID are having to re-think how they work and their role in this changing world. Last year, USAID’s Center for Accelerating Innovation and Impact presented its Financing Framework that sought to outline ways in additional resources could be mobilized in support of USAID’s global health goals. This session will build upon last year’s and present an updated Financing Framework, introduce new tools and concepts such as “blended finance,” discuss its relevance and application to USAID and global health, and present two case studies from India and South Africa.
