The Last Mile: Field Lessons for Reaching Children With HTS
*Recommended Audience: Young Professionals/Graduate Students
Childhood HIV infection is especially complex in terms of case-finding, diagnosis and treatment. Thus, despite the dramatic success of HIV treatment programs around the world, children remain under-represented in HIV testing and treatment. Acknowledging that children in affected families are at increased risk for HIV infection, global 90-90-90 goals can only be reached through innovative and systematic approaches to reaching children with HIV testing and services. Key findings from case studies of programs serving children affected by HIV in Ethiopia, Kenya and Zimbabwe present successful approaches and recommendations to apply community-driven, family-centered approaches to facilitate the entire HIV care and treatment cascade with age-appropriate information and approaches.
