Sustainable Development Goals & Physical Activity: Advancing the Power of Movement
To address growing global decline in physical activity, the World Health Organization and the United States have created physical activity guidelines. However, it’s estimated that 31.1% of all adults and 80.3% of children globally don’t meet the recommendations. Meanwhile, in 2015, United Nations member countries re-envisioned poverty alleviation and empowerment in the transition from the Millennium Development Goals to the Sustainable Development Goals. This session will cover the intersection of physical activity and sport as a tool for addressing all 17 SDGs with case examples. Participants will develop a basic physiological knowledge of physical activity, understand the deleterious consequences of physical inactivity, and will create a small scale physical activity intervention through a small group exercise while receiving guidance from the presenter and other attendees.
