Panel Discussion: Careers in Global Health – Where has it Been, Where is it Going

Over the last twenty years, PHI has been engaged in the business of employing diverse global health professionals for a dynamic and rapidly changing work environment, most recently through the Global Health Fellows Program – II, which is about to end, and now with our newest cooperative agreement with USAID, Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) .

Driven by our curiosities around what it takes to be successful as global health professionals, working either internationally or domestically, and the necessity to understand the business of global health work in the international development industry, we have implemented and have used the findings from three research studies to help inform our work. Based on this research and our experience we offer insights into what preparation is really needed to find and keep a rewarding job in global health, and what employers and academic institutions can do now to train and support a technically excellent, culturally sensitive next generation of global health leaders.
