Optimizing Cancer Care: Roles of Task-Sharing and Technology

Cancer is a critical health and economic issue in low/middle income countries (LMICs). Over 2/3 of cancer-related deaths occur in LMICs This interactive, simulated session will review approaches designed to achieve high-quality, low-cost care for women diagnosed with cancer. Participants will become familiar with new, innovative online patient support systems for breast cancer patients. They will assess this system as part of a larger health program to target priority global health goals related to cancer. New technology will be compared to traditional task-sharing models that utilize local human resources. Participants will learn about ways to create innovative cancer care, to compare the merits of task-sharing and technology, and to establish patient and provider feedback mechanisms structured to improve and optimize cancer care.
