Novel Tools in the War against Insecticide Resistance

*Recommended Audience: Introductory/Undergraduate Students, Young Professionals/Graduate Students, and Mid-Level Professionals

Mosquito control programs are challenged by rising insecticide resistance which threatens mainstream control methods. This session focuses on novel vector control techniques, attractive toxic sugar baits, as well as other WHO approved supplemental control methods that can be used in combination with mainstream control to increase impact and limit development of further insecticide resistance. The session will also focus on varying behavioral traits between mosquitoes, such as feeding and breeding behavior, and how to properly apply and combine different control methods to fit them. The audience will then discuss case studies and propose viable control methods for given scenarios. By the end of the session, attendees will know about cutting edge vector control methods, differences in mosquito behavior, and how to appropriately implement these innovative tools.
