In or Out? Adding Sayana Press to Your FP Method Mix
*Recommended Audience: Young Professionals/Graduate Students, Mid-Level Professionals, and Experienced Professionals
When new family planning (FP) methods come along, it is an exciting opportunity to expand method choice and reach new users. This session will highlight the new subcutaneous contraceptive injectable known as Sayana Press (DMPA-SC). This method has been introduced in several countries and many more are exploring its introduction into national FP programs. In this session, facilitators will outline the unique features of DMPA-SC, such as ease of use by community health workers and the potential for home/self-injection. Participants will hear about recent research on these features and Uganda’s experience with product introduction. Facilitators will demonstrate a new excel-based model that helps visualize how DMPA-SC could increase contraceptive prevalence, and the potential costs and savings of adding it to the method mix.
